About
A celebrated vocalist with a remarkable career, Porter has performed internationally, including at the Gospel Connection conference in Italy, where she has taught, directed and sung with a 350-voice choir for many years. In addition, she toured throughout Europe with the Golden Gospel Singers. She has graced national stages such as Bobby Jones Gospel on the WORD Network and Pre-Stellar Awards showcase at the Grand Ole Opry. In Pittsburgh, Porter has performed alongside many gospel greats such as Oleta Adams and Zacardi Cortez, has sung background vocals for Karen Clark-Sheard, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Common and serves as the Lift Every Voice Unity Choir director (and occasional soloist) with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Porter’s accolades extend beyond the stage. She was honored with the Circle of Courage Award in the category of music, New Pittsburgh Courier’s Women of Excellence Award and YWCA’s Common Ground Award in racial reconciliation, all recognizing her dedication to inspiring and uplifting others through her work. Her recording collaborations include projects with Mount Ararat Baptist Church and Adam Brock, as well as the CHURCH project at the University of Pittsburgh, where she served as both vocalist and executive producer. Her solo recordings are available via digital outlets. Porter holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where she also studied piano, jazz voice with the late Maureen Budway and founded Duquesne’s Gospel Choir, the Gospel Joynotes. Her private music studies include flute, piano with Dr. Alton Merrell, and classical voice with Eugene Perry. She also attends Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Master of Theological Studies program. Porter has been married to the love of her life, Pastor Raymond Porter, Jr. for over eighteen years and is the proud mother of their sixteen-year-old son, Raymond Porter, III, a budding jazz and gospel pianist, actor and vocalist.
